Rikers Island librarian wins Pulitzer Prize

First-time The New Yorker contributor Medar de la Cruz received a Pulitzer Prize in the illustrated-reporting-and-commentary category for his work about being a librarian at Rikers Island. “The Diary of a Rikers Island Library Worker” gives readers a glimpse into New York City’s largest jail complex and the lives of the people incarcerated there.
