The NYC Department of Corrections published an article about JIE on the front page of its August 2025 Volunteer Service Provider Unit Newsletter.

They write, “While the goal is to provide opportunities for incarcerated people, volunteers also benefit from the experience of offering programs at Rikers. Students who volunteer with JIE frequently report that it is among the most rewarding experiences they had while in college.”
