Columbia University’s Center for Justice launches Beyond Punishment Series
The Center for Justice at Columbia just announced their new Beyond Punishment Series, a monthly gathering that builds on the momentum of the annual Beyond the Bars Conference. The series aims to foster space to connect, share knowledge, and strengthen the collective work of advancing justice, equity, and a future without mass incarceration.
The inaugural gathering, “We Are the Vanguard: The Power of Directly Impacted People Organized to Change History,” will take place on Thursday, August 6 at 7:00–8:30 p.m. ET on Zoom. Facilitated by Daryl Atkinson of the Second Chance Federation, the session – held in recognition of Black August and the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act – will explore how lessons from history can inform today’s organizing efforts and help build a world beyond punishment.
