Opportunity: Community Clay Arts Program for Formerly Incarcerated Persons
March 17, 2021 Opportunities
Wedging Forward is a community-based clay arts program for formerly incarcerated individuals. The project is a platform that seeks to rewrite the narrative of carcerality and address injustices against BlPOC and socioeconomically marginalized bodies under current conditions of the Prison Industrial Complex, grounded upon systematic legacies of racism, oppression and inequality.
Over the course of the 10-week, in-person project, participants will be collectively asked to create, share and document their work and progression. The course will be offered at a pay-what you can rate to all students which includes 10 class sessions in beginner hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, open studio access, necessary tools, working materials and processing costs. Alongside the ceramics course offering, activities such as photography, journaling and different forms of written narrative and creative expression will also be heavily encouraged.
Sessions run Sundays from 1:30pm-3:30pm. Learn more here.
