New Issue of PEN America’s “Temperature Check” Features Nicole Fleetwood

Earlier this year, PEN America’s Prison and Justice Writing Program launched Temperature Check, a rapid response series featuring original creative reportage by incarcerated writers, accompanied by podcast interviews with criminal justice reform experts on the pandemic’s impact in United States’ prisons.
Volume 7 focuses on writers with recent releases that contribute to critical public dialogue about mass incarceration, and includes book reviews from our Prison Writing Committee, an interview with Dr. Nicole Fleetwood, and a podcast interview with PEN America Prison Writing Contest winner George Wilkerson.
Friends of the Justice-in-Education Initiative might find Dr. Fleetwood's interview of particular interest, as her recent book Marking Time: Art in the Age of Mass Incarceration featured JIE Scholar Lisette Oblitas.
