Overview

The Justice-in-Education Initiative includes various programs that aim to make higher education available to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students and to contribute to the growing movement to end mass incarceration. Programs include the Rikers Education Program, Prison Education Program, Justice-in-Education Scholars, JustArts, and Changing the Narrative.

Rikers Education Program

Providing opportunities for students at Rikers Island and Columbia University students and faculty to engage in college-oriented education programming with a focus on social justice issues.

Bringing Columbia courses to students who are currently incarcerated in local state prisons, as part of the effort to increase access to higher education for justice-involved individuals.
